Just the other day I was having a conversation with a few people and I mentioned that I like noise. I am the type of person who likes to have the tv on, even if I'm not watching it, just for the background noise. I am not a fan of silence. As soon as I get in the car and get the car started, the radio is going on. What can I say, I like noise.
Maybe I'm this way as a result of growing up in a home with 3 other siblings and 2 parents. Having 6 people, 4 of them being children, in a home can bring on lots of noise. Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't say I like loud noise, I said I like noise (there's a difference). I'm not a fan of screaming, hollering children or any other noise that can make a person feel a bit crazy but I am a fan of the noise of the tv, music, or the conversations of other people.
However, last week I felt compelled to step away from the noise. I felt as though I had too much noise going on in my life and I needed silence. I decided to back away from social media, turn the tv off, and silence the noise of life as much as possible. It wasn't until I invited silence into my life that I realized just how important silence can be.
It's in the silence that we can hear the quiet voice of God, focus on our own thoughts, or refocus and center ourselves. It's in the moments we move away from the noise that we see just who is making noise, what is making noise, and how much noise is being made in our lives.
So, I encourage you to take some time to break away from the noise to dwell in the silence.
Love, peace, and sole!
