I cannot believe this year has come to a close. Geez! But, I am pretty happy to see it go and welcome 2017. If you're anything like me, you have or will be setting some goals to accomplish in this new year. With that being said, I wanted to offer 5 fashion goals to help you slay 2017.
1.) Break Out of Your Comfort Zone
So you're used to only wearing certain colors. You gravitate toward the same silhouettes. You only wear sneakers or you only wear heels. You never wear skirts....etc. etc. etc. Now is the time to step outside of your comfort zone! Try wearing a color you've never worn before. Wear a skirt instead of pants for once. Find a comfortable heel height and rock a pair of heels if you are a sneaker girl. If you're a heels kind of girl, find a cute sneaker to wear for a change. Whatever it is that takes you out of your fashion comfort zone, go for it! You never know, you may actually like it.
2.) Shop Smarter
In 2016, you may have been the biggest impulse buyer. Every time you saw an ad pop up on your Facebook timeline, you clicked on it and went to shopping. Or, every time you went to the mall for one thing, you saw sale signs and somehow you walked out of the store with everything but the actual item you needed. In 2017, girl, get yo life togetha! Stop. It! No more impulse shopping and no more overpaying for things. Plan your shopping trips and stick to it. Know what you need to purchase ahead of time and shop the best price for that item. Look in different stores and also compare the prices online. You will feel much better when you look in your closet seeing items that you would actually wear as opposed to a bunch of clothes and shoes you have no idea what you will ever wear it with or wear it to.
3.) Organize Your Closet
Having an organized closet will help make getting dressed everyday so much easier for you. Get rid of items and shoes you no longer want or plan to wear. Let go of those too small jeans you're holding on to until you "lose weight". Just let it go, girlfriend. When you lose weight, you can always go and purchase jeans to fit your new and improved body. Organizing your closet will save you time getting dressed in the morning and save you money when you shop because you will now be able to see what you actually have in your closet.
Organizing tip: Group like clothing items together. For instance, put all shirts together, pants, skirts, dresses, etc. Once you have grouped the clothing items together, color coordinate each section.
4.) Develop or Revamp Your Personal Style
In 2017, set a goal to discover your personal style. Are you preppy, sporty, girly, casual, dressy? What is your personal style? Have you ever thought about it? If not, take some time out in this new year to figure out just what is your personal style. Having a personal style will help make shopping so much easier for you. You'll be able to go into a store or look online and find clothes that fit into the personal style you have defined for yourself.
If you have just started a new job or career or maybe have reached a milestone birthday or new decade of life, you may want to reevaluate your current personal style and revamp it. Major life changes like getting married or getting divorced or going away to college will also be good reasons to consider revamping your personal style.
5.) Stop Saying, "I Can't Wear That!"
I have heard the phrase, "I can't wear that" time and time again. In 2017, try to limit how many times you allow yourself to say that. Clothing items and trends come in all kinds of different body shapes and styles to fit a variety of people. Now, don't get me wrong, everything is not for everybody! However, a lot of things are for a lot of different people. You just need to find the right fit for you. If there is a trend or clothing item you like on somebody else, try it out on you. You will never know if it works for you unless you try it. Don't count it out before you even try. When you do try it, ask someone who is honest with you and who has some sort of fashion sense what they think of what you're wearing. It may help you feel better about what you're wearing or it may confirm that that particular trend is not for you.
Tip: Get your clothes tailored when needed. Clothing in the store is made to fit a variety of body shapes and sizes. When you get your clothes tailored, it will be customized to fit your body specifically. You'll feel better in your clothing and things will look better on you.
I pray you have a Happy New Year and that you accomplish every goal you set for yourself! Let me know below in the comments which of these goals will personally help you slay 2017 the most!
